About this app
Ethiopia Salary Calculator SIM is an independent, unofficial Android app for Ethiopian payroll arithmetic. Enter a monthly salary in birr and it works out gross pay, PAYE income tax and the 7% pension deduction, then shows the net take-home pay with a clear tax estimate at every step. It is designed for Ethiopian users, works offline, needs no registration, and keeps every calculation on your own phone.
What the app does
- Salary simulator: take-home pay now against take-home pay after a raise.
- Payslip builder: gross salary down to net salary, line by line.
- Reverse mode: the gross pay a target paycheck would need.
- PAYE tax band by band, with the marginal and the effective rate.
- Pension estimator for the 7% contribution, supporting private, public and military pension schemes.
- Overtime pay at 1.5×, 1.75×, 2× and 2.5×.
- Severance pay and unused annual leave.
- The July 2025 tax table set against the old one.
- An Amharic payslip glossary for the Amharic words on payslips, among them gross pay, net pay, income tax and pension.
Results update as you type, which makes it a planner for a raise or a job offer. There is no account, no login and no personal data. It is made for employees in government and private companies, for HR teams, payroll officers and accountants, and for employers, students and job seekers.
What it does not do
This is an independent salary calculator for information and planning. It is not an official representative of the Government of Ethiopia and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any ministry or government agency, and it does not represent any government entity. It cannot file a tax return, register you for PAYE or for a pension scheme, pay or reclaim tax, change what your employer deducts, or access any payroll, bank, tax or pension account. It never asks for a tax identification number, a national identity number, bank details or passwords. Never type a tax identification number, a bank account number, a password or a one-time code into any third-party app or site.
Key facts to keep in mind
- Every result is an estimate — not a payslip, a tax assessment or a pension statement, and not tax advice.
- Ethiopian income tax is charged band by band, so the rate on your last birr of pay is higher than the rate on your salary as a whole.
- Tax bands are set by federal proclamation and are revised; the base the 7% pension is taken on and the employer's share are likewise set by law.
Confirm official payroll, tax and pension amounts with your employer or the tax authority before acting on any number here. The federal proclamations are published by the Ministry of Justice of Ethiopia at https://justice.gov.et/en/laws/proclamations/, including Proclamation No. 1395/2025. The app is free and supported by adverts.
What's new
- Bug fixes and performance improvements.
