Summary
(SBI Student Loan) Pointer is an Android app in the Finance category from HALO DEK, available on Google Play.
(SBI Student Loan) Pointer is an independent, unofficial Android app that explains India education loan schemes in plain English and calculates EMI, moratorium interest, margin, subsidy and Section 80E relief on your own figures, offline.
About this app
(SBI Student Loan) Pointer is an independent educational guide and calculator for Indian education loans. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to State Bank of India or the Government of India, and it cannot accept a loan application. It is for the stage before you sign.
It makes one point first: interest starts on the first disbursement, not on graduation day. Left alone, it is added to your principal at the end of the moratorium, so your EMI is calculated on a bigger number for up to fifteen years. The app shows what that costs, in rupees, before you commit.
What the app does
- Opens a simulator that is already filled in. Move any of four sliders — loan amount, rate, course length, tenure — and everything recalculates instantly.
- Shows two paths side by side: your EMI if you pay nothing while studying, and your EMI if you service the interest as it accrues, with a balance curve for both from the first disbursement to the last instalment, and one plain sentence saying what the difference is worth to you.
- Runs ten calculators, all offline, among them EMI and total cost with a month-by-month schedule; moratorium impact; a scheme finder giving the limit, collateral, margin and fee for each route; margin and own contribution with a scholarship counted properly; processing fee and GST by published slab; interest subsidy, either CSIS in full or three percentage points under PM-Vidyalaxmi; a prepayment saver; Section 80E relief; and loan takeover, your current rate against the SBI rate.
- Explains every route in twelve chapters: the PM-Vidyalaxmi Scheme, the Student Loan Scheme, the Scholar Loan for premier institutions, Global Ed-Vantage for studying abroad, the Skill Loan, Shaurya for Defence families, loan takeover and the two government subsidy schemes, each with its published limits, margin bands, collateral rules, moratorium and rate.
- Carries 1,424 PM-Vidyalaxmi institutes, searchable offline by name or AISHE code and filterable by state. Only institutions on the government Quality Higher Educational Institutions list qualify for a collateral-free PM-Vidyalaxmi loan.
- Also holds the published rate card, dated, for every scheme and variant; 35 questions answered from the official pages; a 53-term glossary covering moratorium, margin, EBR, SMA, capitalisation and 80E; the document checklist with conditional items marked; and ten steps from offer letter to first EMI.
What it does not do
The app does not lend money and cannot be used to apply for a loan. It cannot submit an application, process one, disburse funds, check a status, access any account, or influence any lending decision. There is no account, no login and no server. It never asks for your PAN, Aadhaar, passport or bank details, and everything you type stays on your phone; the only permission it requests is internet access, for the advertising SDK. Never type an account number, a password or an OTP anywhere except an official channel you reached yourself, and nobody should charge a fee to fill in a government form.
Key facts about the programme
- Interest accrues from the first disbursement and, if it is not serviced, is capitalised into the principal at the end of the moratorium.
- Prepayment carries no penalty on these loans, which is why paying early is worth arithmetic rather than guesswork.
- Section 80E gives relief on the interest you pay, not on the principal.
- Indian education loan rates float with the repo rate. Every figure carries the date it was taken, the rates shown are those published on 9 June 2026, and the bank live page always wins. Where the bank publishes nothing — the Global Ed-Vantage margin percentage, for instance — the app says so rather than inventing a number.
This is an independent, unofficial planning tool. Brand and scheme names belong to their respective owners and are used descriptively, to identify the schemes this guide explains. Apply only through State Bank of India directly, at https://bank.sbi, or through the government PM-Vidyalaxmi portal. Figures here are estimates for planning, not a quotation, an offer, a statement of your account, or financial, tax or legal advice. Confirm everything with State Bank of India before acting on it.
What's new
- Bug fixes and performance improvements.
